DIY: IPad Sleeve

Working hard.

Since I had so much time on my hands for the last couple of days before the second semester, I thought I would try to tackle a project I’ve been wanting to do for a while – make an iPad sleeve.

I’ve been toying around with the idea a lot ever since I was charged with the task of finding my iPad some protection. Now was the perfect time to try out what I thought would be an easy project.

I first gathered different types of material – fleece, flannel, cotton – to try to see which would be thickest and/or hold up better. The conclusion? Not sure, since I spent over an hour with my friend’s sewing machine trying to thread the bobbin the correct way. Halfway through one side of the sleeve, the thread caught! Let’s just say we watched countless Youtube videos and wasted a lot of black thread before we were up and going again. By this time of night, we were ready to throw in the towel. Maybe another time?

In the end, I’m happy with the patterns I chose and I am 80% finished with the first sleeve. It doesn’t look too bad for just winging it! Maybe if I have extra material leftover I could make a skirt. Those aren’t too hard, right?
