This Summers Read- The American Sniper

Usually over the summer months is when I have the opportunity to read whatever I want and this summer has been no different. I started off by reading The American Sniper by Chris Kyle. Many people know about the movie due to its growing popularity but I have to say the book was one hundred times better. I was first recommended to read this book by my company’s 1st sergeant. I was told this was a book that could open the eyes of the American people to what post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is actually like with no fluffy edges surrounding it. He said this book explained it all, down to the very heart of the issue. He even said he had to slow down while reading it because it brought back too many memories for him.
While reading the book, I found it to be very difficult to read at times. It was striking in the most difficult ways. It gave me a larger view of the disorder and how it can have an affect on a single person. I recommend this book to everyone in the hopes of better understanding the disorder and how it can trap the mind in a downward spiral.
