This weekend, the students who have been working diligently since the beginning of school will have a dress rehearsal before performing their opera scenes on Tuesday. These scenes come from many different operas such as Bizet’s Carmen to Benjamin Britten’s Peter Grimes. These scenes are chosen with the students in mind so when they are placed in a scene they will have room to grow. The student will have to work hard to accomplish meeting the goals given to them by the directors. I certainly felt this way in my scene. This year I was cast as Carmen, from the opera Carmen. Playing the lead role in my scene, I definitely felt the need to perform well all the time. This was my second year participating in opera scenes. Being somewhat of a veteran to the program, I wanted to be a good example for the younger students. This year I really enjoyed having a larger role and really feeling the need to grow to fulfill the demand. This Sunday the cast from all scenes will have a run through on the music. Then on Tuesday of the following week we will have the performance. It’s going to be a great night!
