April’s monthly drill is this coming weekend and I am ready to get back to work. As summer approaches, my unit’s workload picks up with maintenance operations, weapons qualifications, as well as other missions. Last month’s missions included weapons qualifications on large weapon systems and a smooth range operation for soldiers to have the most opportunities to shoot and qualify. Last month’s training went by quite quickly because I was able to spend all day out at the range with my fellow soldiers. This month will be much the same for me. I will spend all day Saturday assisting soldiers out on the range to make sure their weapons are working correctly. If not, it is my job to fix them so that they are.
Every month I am reminded of the work it takes to keep a unit prepared. Each month we have critical objectives to complete and when one objective isn’t completed, the unit is at risk of not running as efficiently as possible. Each and every month, soldiers work hard so we are able to stay in the best shape possible and complete the missions at hand.
