It’s my FAVORITE time of the year. Winter? No. January? Nope. 2nd Semester?! Not even close. It’s that time of year in which Orientation Applications come out. Every year in the last couple of weeks January Concordia begins to recruit the best-of-the-best students to apply to be Orientation Leaders and Assistants.

Yes, I might be slightly biased, considering I held multiple positions within the Orientation, but that doesn’t change the importance of it. Orientation at Concordia will always be the program that is near and dear to my heart. It’s often the first experience students have on campus and the time spent provides them with so much information it’s almost sickening… almost.

Before I encourage you to apply, I would also like to address a couple of the most common misconceptions about Orientation and its assistants and leaders.

Orientation is not only for people who are outgoing and peppy.

The students that come to Concordia have a variety of personalities (quiet, excited, relaxed, extroverted, shy, dedicated, etc.) and Orientation leaders and assistants should accurately mirror that. The Orientation team’s personalities need to be just as diverse as the students they are welcoming.

“My Orientation experience was terrible and I hated it, so I don’t want to be a part of that!”

That’s the best reason to apply! The Orientation experience depends on the leaders and assistants that run it. If you hated your experience then you have insight into why, and you have the power to change it. The best Orientation leaders and assistants are he ones that want to make Orientation better for the next batch of incoming students.
Here is the part of my post in which I encourage, beg, and plead for you to apply. Along with the online application, you will need a student reference, a faculty reference, and a resume. This is a great time to build a formal resume, make connections with faculty for references, gain experience filling out an application, and go through a professional interview process. I am so excited for you and all of your friends to apply!

You can apply online by clicking here! Applications are due on January 27th!
